The USPS EDDM: Taking Businesses Farther

Taking on other names like the U.S. Mail and the Post Office, the United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the government of the United States and is responsible for providing postal services to the country.   Aside from rendering postal services to individuals, USPS is also known for providing a good way for retail and larger businesses to reach the homes of their consumers.  This is made possible by the USPS EDDM system.

The USPS has made it possible for businesses, both large and small, to have the chance to tell the whole neighborhood what they have to offer.  At only 14.5 cents per mail piece, the EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) service guarantees better responses from consumers even without the need for a list of names or addresses.  In a nutshell, USPS allows businesses to send their mailings to the specified neighborhoods, to every doorstep.

Two EDDM Options

There are two options the USPS EDDM system offers its customers.

(1)   Every Door Direct Mail – Retail®

This is the option preferred by most local businesses since it is simple and cost-effective.  This option allows a business to send up to 5,000 pieces of mails per day and it does not require the clients to purchase a postage permit.  This works by taking the mailings to the post office of the neighborhood targeted.  Postage can be paid for using cash, credit card, or check.

(2)   Every Door Direct Mail

This option is suitable for businesses who want to send larger amounts of mail.  The mailings are to be submitted at a BMEU (Business Mail Entry Unit).

What Every Door Direct Mail Offers

The EDDM System offers:

(1)   Guarantee that your mail reaches the homes of your consumers

Mail gets saturated easily to the neighborhood preferred and is delivered directly into the consumers’ doorsteps.

(2)   Flexibility

Whether a business needs small or large sizes, the EDDM system makes itself ideal for clients looking for anything from a simple sales announcement to an in-depth story for their company.

(3)    Effectiveness of Messages

Through the EDDM System, business owners can choose to include whatever they think would make their message appear clearer to the consumer.  This can be anything between coupons, store maps, menus, and more.

How to Use the USPS EDDM System

Upon further research and experience, the EDDM system has proved to be effective for almost all types of businesses when it comes to looking for an effective yet affordable way to be able to reach their customers.  The following steps are the standard ones taken for one to be able to avail of this service.

(1)   Logging on a printing site, either login or register a new account

(2)   Specify the area you want to reach by mail (zip code, city, neighborhood, or target area)

(3)   Create your mail according to the approved EDDM specifications

(4)   Leave the work to the EDDM service provider

Whether you are only starting out in business or are on the verge of launching a new product, take note that you will be able to let the whole neighborhood know of your business through the USPS Every Door Direct Mail service.
